Be the Light

"The light of a lamp shines on and does not lose its radiance until it is extinguished. Will then the truth, justice, and self-control which fuel you fail before your end." --Marcus Aurelius, from Meditation

These are encouraging words. We are the light of the world, if we wish to be, if we strive to be. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. This is, in a nutshell, what Christ said to his apostles. We can be aware of what is going on in the world and warn the world about what is coming. We must warn the world. We can encourage others to read good books, like Walden by Henry David Thoreau, like Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman. We can read the lines in the faces of strangers.
