It has been noted that women are more likely to select a man for marriage who makes her laugh. Women, likewise, tend to impress men with their laughter. The man feels validated by the woman’s laughter.
The future humans will be more likely to have profound senses of humor, as that is continually being selected for. The ability to tell remarkable jokes will become more prominent in men, and the ability to laugh at and enjoy jokes will become more pronounced in women. This, in turn, will produce more jovial humans, at least in some situations. This is why arranged marriages are generally a bad idea. Women have an instinctual ability to select men that will impart a greater degree of mental health to the offspring. At least, that is part of the picture.
